1. Column concreting
Kicker
Generally, a kicker is provided at all positions where concrete columns are required from concrete slabs, footings, or plinth beams. Generally, the height of the kicker is 75mm (3”) and the kicker gives a good structural start to the column.
A correctly formed kicker,
- Allows good reinforcement arrangements
- Assure a good joint between the column and base
- Provides a key for the column formwork (This improves the quality and speeds up the construction)
The processes involved in the kicker making are following;
- At first, the position of the column on the slab is found out by plumb-bob.
- Then 3” height kicker shutter can be placed according to the measurement, then concrete is poured (in the case of column kicker casting the mixing ratio of 1:2:4 cement, sand, and aggregate (20mm metal)) is maintained.
- After 24 hours kicker formwork can be removed.
