Honeycombs are the defects in a finished concrete surface. If the poker vibrator is not applied properly air bubbles couldn’t released from concrete. Later it will come to the outer surface of the concrete. It’s a defect of concrete. These voids are called honeycombs.

Honeycombs can be observed in a construction site in the structural elements also. Such as beams, columns, slabs, and precast lintels. After
removing the formwork sometimes honeycombs can be identified.

These honeycombs may appear due to various reasons.

• Improper vibration
• Segregation of concrete
• Defects in shuttering works(leakage)
• The mixing ratio is not according to the standard ratio

If many honeycombs are found in the concrete, cement-water grout can be used to fill the tiny holes. If there are honeycombs in small areas coarse aggregate can be removed by chipping and a 1:2(cement: sand) mortar mixture was applied over the honeycombing area.
